Dubbed the Survival Machete by its makers, the Ontario Knife Company, at Zulu Nine, we just refer to it as the “Pry Bar”. A solid quarter inch thick (6mm) the Survival Machete boasts a 10 inch (25.4cm) blade with an overall length just a tick over 15 inches (38.1cm). Shaped like a wood chisel the Survival Machete features a sharpened nose that is ideal for jamming in doors and windows. The spine of this “pry bar” has prominent “teeth” much like the teeth in a ratchet. These teeth can aid traction while prying and levering. Opposite the spine, the main edge is sharpened making this tool extremely useful for chopping and hacking. The blade is covered in a black epoxy and is rounded out with a comfortable medium hard polymer grip with a lanyard hole.
Whether it is selected for survival or rescue the Survival Machete belongs in the kit bag of any serious practitioner.
